Finishing up Track and more

On Peter's birthday last week my parents and Katherine came up for the day. My Mom and Katherine joined us for story time at the library. We took otter pops to share with the kids at library time. After lunch we had Vanessa and her kids join us for bowling. (We signed up for free kids bowling this summer!!) The kids had a great time! Peter either chucked the ball down the lane or used the dinosaur. Kendal did her dance after each bowl.

Later Mom D came up and we all got to watch the kids at their track meet. They handed out ribbons at the track meet. Kendal got third in both shot put and hurdles, she also got fifth in the 100 meter dash. Peter got fourth in his hurdles, and did a personal best of 5.5 ft. on his long jump!
We ended Peter's birthday with Pizza and ice cream sandwiches. Peter got a much desired car / trailer Lego set plus athletic shorts from Grandma and Grandpa D, he got an awesome homemade M&M apron (plus actual M&M's) and Pete the Cat books from my parents, Auntie Katherine is going to take him to Cars when we visit Logan, Uncle Andy and Campbell gave Peter a helmet, silly putty, plus a boat load of candy, and Peter got a star wars book and a giant bucket of Legos from Casey and I. He's played and created with his Legos all week and begged for candy all day every day (thanks Andy : /.

I wanted to prep the kids (mostly Peter) for the likelihood of not getting a medal this week at track so we watched Cool Runnings on Monday night and talked about doing our very best, and realizing you can't win every time and that's ok. You learn, adapt, move on, and most of all try. The kids liked the movie but most of the humor was a bit beyond their level. They loved that Sanka was put into an ice cream truck and some of his hair broke off because he was so cold.
This week was the kids' last track meet on Wednesday. Every meet Peter has done hurdles, 50 meter dash, and the long jump. Peter had a personal best in his hurdles and his 50 meter run! Peter also got a ribbon for hurdles. Every meet Kendal has done the long jump, shot put, and hurdles, she did the 200 meter one week and the 100 meter the other three weeks. Kendal had a personal best in long jump (6' 11") and she received a metal for taking third in shot put. Kendal got ribbons for hurdles and the 100 meter dash.
While I can't say Peter's heart was in it every week he did try his best this last track meet! Kendal put out her best every week, sometimes she shined and other times fell a bit short. Right now they're learning and trying, which is all we asked for. We're proud of the hard work and effort they put in, and that they were able to beat their personal bests quite a few times!

We've kept up with our summer activities. The kids have completed their summer to do's every day. Casey build a pendulum and the kids did side walk paint on the road with it! We flew kites this week on one or our more windy days, we've done some science experiments, perler beads, and today we went out for 79 cent Transformer slushies and a walk along the Canyon rim. We played with cousins yesterday, have enjoyed time at home doing whatever, and the kids enjoying outside time with neighbors.

Last but certainly not least - Alice. She's learned to roll onto her stomach and that is where she is whenever we put her down. She also pivots and wiggles around to get toys. She loves it; however she throws up 9 / 10 times she's on her stomach.  She even rolls over and sleeps on her stomach at night. She's discovered her toes and thinks they're better them some toys. She's gotten into moving her tiny toung around which is cute / funny. We've tried out some first foods with Alice. She's had the basic cereals, squash, and a bit of mushed banana. She's like them all so far!
