Time to play catch up. We started school on Aug. 25th. Casey and I were ready to go. Kendal and Alice were excited to start school and Pete was less than enthused to say goodbye to his carefree summer days. Funny enough Pete went to the wrong classes the first two class periods on day one because some schedules got changed (students were warned to check schedules) and Pete's did. After I was called about him being marked absent I had to call over to the high school sort out where he was. Because he had been in the wrong class first hr (Seminary) and didn't want to go back he stayed in the wrong class second hr. Almost a month into school and we've all got the hang of things. I'm still tweaking and smoothing out lessons as I go for my class, but so far it's going well. I'm doing a class called 'Connections' this year. 6th grade is a simplified psychology class with lots of brain building / testing activities. 7th is a sociology class learning about themselves as a part of society with a lot of team building and group activities. 8th is currently repeating 6th and then 7th grade lessons over the course of two quarters, and I hope to expand and go "next level" next year with that group. Kendal has a huge workload this year (chemistry, Honors History, Calculus, fitness, Seminary, Honors English, Communications, Spanish) Her Chemistry, Calculus, History, Communications, and Spanish are all duel credit classes. She's working hard and doing great so far. Pete is rolling into Freshman year just fine as well (he's in Algebra 2, Seminary, Honors English, Intro to AG, Science, Adobe Photoshop, Health, and Spanish). Alice is liking her class this year with Mrs. Maxwell. She's testing up to a 7th grade level in reading and has joined the Bell Ringers club this year. Our first three weeks of school were only 4 day weeks so that was nice to ease into the school year. This last week was the first full week of school and we all felt it by the end of the week.
Our fridge came Aug. 26th! Casey came home during his prep in hopes that it would be delivered in that "window", but it came just after he left so Stephanie Kellogg had to come over and help us out to get it delivered. Sometimes you take for granted the luxury a simple fridge is, but going without one so long definitely gave us gratitude for what we have. Also documenting how nicely the grass is coming in!
I headed down to Logan on September 1st to be with my parents for my Dad's surgery that was on Sept. 2nd. His surgery was on his spine to remove bone spurs and cysts. It was supposed to be a 2 hr surgery so when they asked us to head back and HR and 20 minutes later I joked out loud that he was either done or dead (got a laugh out of my Mom - the people next to us looked mortified - not the place for my sarcastic humor ; ). My Dad's surgery went very well and after a lengthy recovery session (2 hours in the recovery room, and 2 more in a waiting area to get into a room) he was taken to the baby and mom unit to stay with them for the next day or so. The lame part of this all was that my Dad had hurt his shoulder the Monday before his surgery and was in more pain from that than his surgery. We later found out via MRI that he tore the muscle on his shoulder and will have to have surgery for that in the next month +. I drove my Mom back and forth for a couple of days and we were able to take my Dad home on Friday around lunch time. He's had a hard time adjusting and being in constant pain. His recovery road is anything but smooth and I hope and pray he can mend and heal in the best way and get his shoulder taken care of soon as well. I stayed into Saturday (my Dad's birthday) and got to celebrate him with all of the siblings home. I drove home that night to spend the rest of the weekend with my family for Labor day.
Kendal and Pete have had three meets in the last month. Their first one was in Jerome on the 27th of August. Kendal ran a time of 32:35, and Pete ran a time of 21:23 at their golf course. It was a hot day for them with temps in the 90's and it wasn't the funnest race to run in the heat, but they did well.

Sept. Ken 10th Magic Mountain, Kendal ran a time of 33:36, and Pete ran a time of 23:45. Both Casey and the gal with the professional camera missed Kendal running (Casey was helping at the finish line).

Sept. 18th Sunway (Dani Bates) Kendal got a (so far) season best with 28:11, Pete got a Personal best with a time of 19:51 (sub 20 is great for a Freshman!) he was in the top third of the JV runners. It was an overcast and windy day so for the spectators it wasn't to fun, but the kids didn't mind the cooler temps to run in. Both are very proud of their Dani Bates times and races but also enjoy Magic Mountain (the "home" meet where you get to run up and down the mountain). Cheryl and Kenny went to support the kids at the Jerome meet, Casey got to run up to Magic Mountain for that meet and I skipped out on Library duties to watch the kids run this past week in Twin. We've got a lot more season to go and the kids are pumped and excited to continue!

We were able to attend Jemma's baptism on Sept. 12th. Kendal played the piano beautifully the whole time and we got to watch Alice's best cousin buddy get baptized. She was glowing and so happy.
Pete and Kendal fit in quite a bit of friend time. They've gone to all of the home football games with Casey to hang out with friends, and have found other opportunities to do movie nights and other fun stuff with friends. Pete did the Cool to Care high school Carnival with his friends the night of the 12th. Alice gets less friend time out of school, but loves when Activity Day's rolls around and got to go to her friend Sophie's birthday party yesterday.
Kendal and Pete joined the youth on a Temple trip this last week to the Burley since ours is closed until October.
