Finishing up Track and more

On Peter's birthday last week my parents and Katherine came up for the day. My Mom and Katherine joined us for story time at the library. We took otter pops to share with the kids at library time. After lunch we had Vanessa and her kids join us for bowling. (We signed up for free kids bowling this summer!!) The kids had a great time! Peter either chucked the ball down the lane or used the dinosaur. Kendal did her dance after each bowl.

Later Mom D came up and we all got to watch the kids at their track meet. They handed out ribbons at the track meet. Kendal got third in both shot put and hurdles, she also got fifth in the 100 meter dash. Peter got fourth in his hurdles, and did a personal best of 5.5 ft. on his long jump!
We ended Peter's birthday with Pizza and ice cream sandwiches. Peter got a much desired car / trailer Lego set plus athletic shorts from Grandma and Grandpa D, he got an awesome homemade M&M apron (plus actual M&M's) and Pete the Cat books from my parents, Auntie Katherine is going to take him to Cars when we visit Logan, Uncle Andy and Campbell gave Peter a helmet, silly putty, plus a boat load of candy, and Peter got a star wars book and a giant bucket of Legos from Casey and I. He's played and created with his Legos all week and begged for candy all day every day (thanks Andy : /.

I wanted to prep the kids (mostly Peter) for the likelihood of not getting a medal this week at track so we watched Cool Runnings on Monday night and talked about doing our very best, and realizing you can't win every time and that's ok. You learn, adapt, move on, and most of all try. The kids liked the movie but most of the humor was a bit beyond their level. They loved that Sanka was put into an ice cream truck and some of his hair broke off because he was so cold.
This week was the kids' last track meet on Wednesday. Every meet Peter has done hurdles, 50 meter dash, and the long jump. Peter had a personal best in his hurdles and his 50 meter run! Peter also got a ribbon for hurdles. Every meet Kendal has done the long jump, shot put, and hurdles, she did the 200 meter one week and the 100 meter the other three weeks. Kendal had a personal best in long jump (6' 11") and she received a metal for taking third in shot put. Kendal got ribbons for hurdles and the 100 meter dash.
While I can't say Peter's heart was in it every week he did try his best this last track meet! Kendal put out her best every week, sometimes she shined and other times fell a bit short. Right now they're learning and trying, which is all we asked for. We're proud of the hard work and effort they put in, and that they were able to beat their personal bests quite a few times!

We've kept up with our summer activities. The kids have completed their summer to do's every day. Casey build a pendulum and the kids did side walk paint on the road with it! We flew kites this week on one or our more windy days, we've done some science experiments, perler beads, and today we went out for 79 cent Transformer slushies and a walk along the Canyon rim. We played with cousins yesterday, have enjoyed time at home doing whatever, and the kids enjoying outside time with neighbors.

Last but certainly not least - Alice. She's learned to roll onto her stomach and that is where she is whenever we put her down. She also pivots and wiggles around to get toys. She loves it; however she throws up 9 / 10 times she's on her stomach.  She even rolls over and sleeps on her stomach at night. She's discovered her toes and thinks they're better them some toys. She's gotten into moving her tiny toung around which is cute / funny. We've tried out some first foods with Alice. She's had the basic cereals, squash, and a bit of mushed banana. She's like them all so far!

Peter is 5!

Peter is five today! He's been anticipating this day for months now. He also hasn't let people call it summer yet, because summer "starts" on his birthday.  Peter is our strong willed, creative, energetic, loves his baby sister, funny, independent, perfectionist, and all around awesome little man.
Peter has such a strong will. It can be amazing, and it can be a battle. It depends on the day, what we're doing, and amount of sleep determines how his attitude goes lately. Peter's favorite thing to play is Lego's. He's got many kinds of Legos (construction, star wars, space, city people, etc.) and he loves playing with them all! He's super creative, and imaginative it's fun to watch his play. If he's not constructing, he's outside playing and usually finding dirt. He Loves time with cousin Becca and playing at Aunt Nessa's house. He's learned so so much this past year and we're proud of all that he's accomplished. He also absorbs books lately. He can't read them yet (just pick out sight words), but he pours over the pictures and likes to be read to.

I joke that Peter's sandwiched between two sisters. We're still trying to find a balance, because big sis tends to take charge, and baby sis needs a lot of mom's attention; so some days Peter tends to act up and I feel it's because he's in the middle of it all.  Peter loves his sisters very much! He and Kendal play pretty well. however they do argue when it comes to picking what they play.
Peter adores Alice and loves her a ton. But sometimes his brotherly love is a bit much for his baby sister. He can get the best giggles and smiles out of Alice though.

Darrington weekend 2017!

We had our Darrington reunion this weekend! Cody, Mia, and Kenny joined Casey, Kendal, and Peter Friday afternoon at Dirkies to fish. Mia, Cody, and Kendal caught fish. The kids thought it was funny that Cody's fish swallowed his hook and he couldn't get it out. That evening we all joined up at Brett and Vanessa's (minus Sarah and a sick Bryker) we ate some yummy grilled pizza and the adults played a game while the kids watched Trolls.

Saturday we started our morning back over at Brett and Vanessa's for breakfast. Afterwards we went to Rock Creek park for family pictures. It was about like I expected, some struggles, a bit of whining, loads of wiggles, loads of sweedish fish to bribe the kids; but I'm sure we'll turn out some great pictures.

When we finished pictures we headed out to Hagerman to 1000 springs to swim and have lunch. Alice had her first experience in the pool. She enjoyed it for a while, and took a break for a bit to nap. Peter stole Alice's float for a bit and went around in it. (insert eye roll, sigh, and oy) He also happily played around with cousins. Kendal wanted to do it all. She swam everywhere, went of the diving boards (high dive included and another dive ending in a nice belly flop), went on the rolling log, and played around with cousins.

We ended up at Casey's parents Satruday evening. The kids played to their hearts content and the boys dug a pit so we could roast some pig (aka pork roasts). We had some smores and games outside also.
Sunday we went to church. The Raft River ward boundaries have changed so it was a different vibe attending church there, but good nonetheless. The kids happily grouped up and went off to classes together. Some of them even went up and sang with the kids during sacrament meeting. Sunday afternoon we ate our roast pig and the kids played some more. I did a tin foil boat competition with the kids and they did a craft with Vanessa. Peter chose to have his birthday cupcakes over the weekend so after asking all day for his present and cake he got his wish.
Sunday night we sent off the rest of the cousins and stayed back with Cody and Mia. (Thanks for putting up with your extra clingy companions over the weekend Cody and Mia - you're troopers - just experience for your little one eh ; ) This morning Casey and Cody patched up their parents roof. Peter happily built his new Lego's from Grandma and Grandpa D! The kids played the day away which included games with Aunt Mia, sprinkler time, Lego's, and outside time. We headed back home late this afternoon so the kids could go to Track practice.

As always it was a wonderful weekend with the Darrington clan! It's a lot of late nights, active kids, good food, amazing family fun, and wonderful memories made!
